Ecuador joins Panama’s Friendly Nations residence regime
Ecuadorian nationals now have a new option to apply for residence in Panama and pursue their professional, family or investment plans from the country.
Ecuador’s inclusion in the list of Friendly Nations was formalized through Executive Decree No. 16 of August 31, 2026. As a result, Ecuadorian nationals may now consider this immigration category in accordance with the conditions and documentation applicable to the option that best suits their plans in Panama.
Available options
Among the most relevant alternatives is an application based on an employment relationship in Panama, which must be coordinated with the corresponding work permit. Applicants may also consider the option based on a real estate investment of at least US$200,000.00, subject to evidence of the investment, the source of funds and the other applicable immigration requirements.
Selecting the appropriate option requires an assessment of the actual purpose of the relocation, the activities the applicant intends to carry out, the manner in which the investment will be documented and the needs of the applicant’s family group. A properly structured immigration application should ensure consistency among the personal, employment, banking, corporate and real estate information submitted as part of the process.
Coordinated planning from the outset
Residence is often part of a broader decision involving relocation, investment or professional development. The analysis may also include the incorporation of a company, the acquisition of real estate, the establishment of banking relationships, employment arrangements, the corresponding permits and the organization of family documentation.
